2009 Safety Training

MRL's safety team expanded its training role significantly in 2009. As well as participating in various courses and conferences as visiting speakers, MRL has started to deliver bespoke training to the events industry.

The year started with a visit by Jools Bentley and Luke Carr (from Sevens7) to Shanghai. The assignment was to deliver training in best practice and safety to Loop, a promotional agency, working with major European brands throughout China.

MRL gets through to the final

MRL were tasked with managing safety at this year’s UEFA Champions League Final Fans Festival in Rome. The job fell to Jools Bentley, who with a heavy heart, packed his bags and left for three weeks in Rome in mid-May.

"It has to have been one of the most fantastic (no pun intended) experiences of my working career so far", said Jools. "I love the Champions League as a football fan anyway, so to be involved in such an event was really exciting for me".

MRL undertakes fire safety work in Saudi Arabia

MRL Safety were contracted by Dubai-based Filmmaster Events to produce a Fire Safety Management Plan and provide a Fire Safety Consultant for the inauguration ceremony of the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology in Thuwel, Saudi Arabia in September 2009.

The ceremony was to take place in three very large temporary structures that would take three months to build in the searing desert heat.

MRL Eye Officially Cleared for Takeoff

Following an extensive 12 month process, MRL Limited became the first commercial organisation in the UK to be approved to operate the MRL Eye by the Civil Aviation Authority (CCA). The CAA, who is responsible for overseeing aviation standards and safety across the UK, awarded the license after MRL Limited submitted an extensive safety management case to prove the company, and its pilots, are safe and competent to fly.
