During a period of severe winter weather, the MRL Eye was used to complete a number of aerial surveys to allow an assessment to be made of the scale of the disruption. Due to the size and weight of the MRL Eye, the unit is flexible and able to operate in weather conditions a helicopter is not. The MRL Eye is also light enough to fly a lower level flight path safely to get clearer ground level detail. The images are recorded on a high resolution video card, as well as been transmitted back to the ground station. When used in conjunction with the mobile surveying unit, the images can be viewed in the comfort and safety of a dedicated vehicle.
