Brighton parties on the beach to Big Beach Boutique

Commissioned to deliver the full range of safety management services by the show's producers, Loudsound, MRL Limited worked as part of the senior project team to deliver the hugely successful event.

Judy Jackson, who led the work for MRL Limited said, "Never being afraid of a challenge, our staff began working with Jim King, Director of Loudsound, Brighton & Hove council, the emergency services and other agencies back in the summer of 2006 to start planning for our first event of 2007. The plan was to hold a ticketed event on the seafront road where local artist Fat Boy Slim would be the headline act."

Judy recalls... "Regular meetings were held as the event plan and emergency plans were developed and risk assessments completed. Not only were we looking at having 20,000 people in one place but we were facing the challenge of the British weather. Events held outdoors in the summer months can soon be ruined by the weather but an event on New Years Day was another suggestion altogether!"

As part of the contract with Loudsound, MRL Limited were responsible for developing the pre-licensing safety case, provision of a full event safety plan and commissioning of medical and fire cover. MRL Limited also provided on-site safety management during the build and de-rig.

The event was co-ordinated by the onsite ELT (or Event Control) and by show day all the agencies who were present in the Event Control were well versed in the likely challenges of the day and plans swung into action. The event was a tremendous success and even the arrival of heavy, horizontal rain did little to dampen the spirits of the 20,000 people in the audience.
